Once again the Cowra Jockey Club went Troppo for their annual Cowra Cup meeting, with many patrons joining in and dressing more for an island holiday than a typical day at the races.
The lure of $500 cash for the best dressed tropical male and female as well as the most original ensured many colourful outfits were to be seen.
As heatwave conditions were forecasted for the day and with the hottest temperatures expected to be later in the day Racing NSW made the call earlier in the week to move the race times forward by almost three hours so that the races would be completed earlier than normal, which was appreciated by all on course.
The local galloper and easily the crowd favourite, Zarhron won his fourth straight Japan Cowra Cup over 1200m for Cowra trainer Andrew Molloy.
The eight year old brown gelding carried 5kg’s more than any other horse in the race and left many of the so called experts in the betting ring shaking their heads in amazement.
