Mouse Trap, exhibited by Bronwyn and Chris Halliday, J. and C. Angus stud, now heads to the Sydney Royal Easter Show and the sale ring.
Because of rain the interbreed judging had to be done in the cramped space of the marquee normally used by spectators.
The judges, Dr Thomas Grupp, Germany, Ms Donna Robson, Flemington Limousin stud, Adelong, and Scott Myers, Myers Limousins, Moss Vale, had to squeeze around the champion animals and onlookers to inspect them.
Both the finalists in the bull and female interbreed competitions did one lap of the show ring in drizzling rain before returning to the marquee.
Ms Robson spoke on behalf of her fellow judges before the announcement of the supreme champion beef breed bull of the show, saying the commercial industry needed bulls that could walk, were structurally sound and had thickness in the carcase.
She said three bulls had stood out for her - the Murray Grey, Angus and Fleckvieh.
In the end Mouse Trap, the impressive 1084kg Angus bull exhibited by Bronwyn and Chris Halliday, J. and C. Angus stud, Wildes Meadow, caught the eye of the judging panel.
Ms Robson and Mr Myers put the Angus on top while Dr Grupp placed him second to the Fleckvieh.
Speaking before the announcement of the supreme champion beef breed female of the show, Scott Myers said all the finalists were “ticking the boxes”.
“This is a great line-up of females,” he said. He nominated the Angus, Charolais and Limousin champions as his pick.
