Our role is to help provide homes and services, build better planned communities, create jobs and protect the environment.
We do this by creating plans for the future of regions and local areas; revitalising urban areas; providing land for new homes, services and open space; assessing important projects to ensure the need for new jobs is balanced with the needs of the community and environment; and developing policies that guide planning activity for government and local government across NSW.
The department has offices in Grafton, Tamworth, Gosford, Singleton, Queanbeyan, Alpine Resorts, Dubbo, Wollongong and Newcastle.
Our role in the Western region of NSW is about working collaboratively with the community to better plan for our future population’s key needs in terms of housing, jobs, infrastructure and maintaining a healthy environment.
For the first time, every region in NSW including the Western Region has a regional plan.
Our regional office in Dubbo is responsible for preparing, implementing and monitoring regional plans.
The regional plans are the NSW government’s strategy for guiding land use planning decisions for the regions in the next 20 years.
The plans set regional planning priorities and provide a framework for regional and local planning decisions.
The Western Regional team is working closely with councils, industry and other agency stakeholders to implement planning outcomes which are balanced and sustainable to implement the regional plans.
