Livestock, poultry, and horse entries were all strong at this year’s 143rd Cooma Show.
Cattle steward Michael Green was impressed with both the quality and numbers.
“We really thrilled to have all the yard full to bursting and the variety of breeds shows the sort of progress the south east region is making in choices about cattle breeding in general.”
Veteran Hereford breeder Pam Shelley of Kaludah Poll Herefords exhibited the grand champion bull of the show, with the Walters family from Rosskin Angus and Charolais stud at Dalgety taking out the supreme exhibit with a Charolais cow and calf.
Sheep numbers were strong with a ram from Jayne and Peter Lette’s Conrayn Merino stud at Dalgety taking the supreme exhibit sash.
The pavilion was pleasingly full of fine arts, craft and produce (in spite of rain being a bit light on over the previous few weeks,) and as always the photography sections were well supported.
Spokesman for the Cooma Agricultural, Pastoral and Horticultural Society, Brain Coyte said the committee had some new blood and has been well pleased with the 2018 show.
“This year we hoped to see support build as we get close to our 145th show, and that has happened. Before we know it, the sesqui-centenery will be upon us, so it’s good to have strong hands at the helm for something that will show just what a special and committed community we have around here.”
