So much so for the exhibitor of both ram and ewe Wiltshire Horn grand champions, Jason OLoghlin of OLoghlin stud, Deniliquin, he is just about sold out of rams.
Im now selling my six-month-olds because the demand is so great, he said.
Mr OLoghlin said he was following his fathers footsteps who had won the championship at Sydney Royal three times in a row. He now has a 70 ewe stud flock and runs another 1300 commercial ewes after registering his stud in 2009.
OLoghlins grand champion ram and ewe double, with a ram from the over one year class and a ewe winning the same age class, headed a team of four rams and five ewes judged by Greg Hamilton, Windradyne Poll Dorset stud, Canowindra.
Mr Hamilton said there must be strong demand for shedding sheep out west, as the breeders were saying they were selling out of rams.
Exhibiting reserve champion ram was the Chittering Gulley stud of Vic and Rose Rushton, Balladoran, who recommenced Wiltshire Horn breeding two years ago after a stint at crossbreeding and now runs 30 stud and 200 commercial ewes.
We fell in love with the breed, Mr Rushton said.
