Inlon import, distribute and provide service support of tractors and farm machinery.
Managing director, Inlon, Jim Jardim shares the companies plans for initiatives and expansion in rural and regional NSW.
We are building a new Landini tractor dealer network. Landini is a traditional Italian manufacturer for more than 130 years with a great heritage and a particular reputation as a world leader in specialist tractors.
Although the tractor range has been in Australia since 1991, when it was originally introduced by Inlon, it has had several distributors.
In late 2016, Landini returned to Inlon.
We have been redeveloping the dealer network with a particular focus on its specialist tractors and cabin farm tractors.

What sets your company apart from others in your industry/sector?
Innovation has been a characteristic of Australian agriculture, but not such a feature of the general mowing industry.
When a small Czech start-up company visited Inlon in 2006 to pitch their remote-controlled mower, we quickly recognised the potential.
Hence the Spider Slope Mower was born in Australia.
The mowing technique eliminates the critical workplace safety issues in the mowing of slopes such as road side embankments, dam and retention walls, levees and similar slopes.

How will ag tech and big data change the skills base needed in rural and regional areas?
In the end, the wheels have to hit the soil and physical work has to be done. Big data can only help us work smarter, more efficiently and with less waste.
For sure, computer and data handling skills are key, but it will be open mindedness and creativity that can make real improvements.
Do you have any initiatives to attract young people to your organisation or to re-skill older workers?
With a small company of 35 people, we have five apprentices and three university trainees.
We have also financially supported our apprentices that completed their trade qualifications to do additional certificate courses.
