BUYERS from Queensland, Victoria and NSW filled the stands at the inaugural Red Reflections 1 sale held at the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Center in Tamworth on Saturday.
Graham Jordan, Goonoo Red Angus, Tamworth; David Croker, Yallambee Red Angus, Berrima, and James Robertson, Fishington Red Angus, Wongwibinda, built the concept for a Red Angus female showcase and plan to build on the sale for an annual or biannual event.
Twenty five registered heifers were offered through the ring with 17 selling under the hammer to average $5853; two “Pick of the Herd” flushes sold for $5500 and $4000 and 30 commercial females sold to a top of $1525.
The 2018 grand champion female from Sydney Royal, offered by Goonoo Red Angus, attracted the $20,000 top bid selling to AK Red Angus, Kangaroo Valley.
An August 2016 drop heifer sired by K5X Jackpot J20 and from Rockridge Magic Goldmine B44, Goonoo Red Magnolia was pregnancy tested in calf to GK 21 Marshall and described by Colin Rex, 2018 Red Angus judge, as being a “huge” but refined young female with a great top line and a free mover.
Auctioneer Paul Dooley, Tamworth, admitted “you wouldn’t normally get the chance to purchase this calibre of female but the Jordan’s offer top quality and AK Red Angus are developing a really elite Red Angus herd and this heifer will fit in beautifully”.
Yallambee Red Angus sold two October 2016 born heifers for $8000.
Both sired by Red T-K Recoil 72Y, the two “powerhouse” heifers sold into the AK Red Angus stud situated on the Southern Highlands.
The buyer’s representative said Yallambee are breeding exceptional youngsters.
“They are sourcing impeccable genetics from Canada and with good genes hopefully you get the right article”.
Fishington Red Angus offered 30 commercial Red Angus females with calves at foot.
Strong competition from the stands and phone bids drove the price to a top of $1525 per unit paid by Walcha producer, Geoff Etheridge.
Mr Etheridge recently dispersed his Limousin stud, Red Rock, and is now focusing on commercial opportunities.
The sale was interfaced via Elite Livestock Auctions, three lots sold online with four registered bidders logging activity throughout the sale and 26 viewing the action.
Ross Anderson, Arding, secured three heifers to average $5500; Gavin Knee, Loomerah, averaged $5333 for his three heifers; Sally Prass, Cowra paid $4000 each for two females.
The sale was settled by Ian Morgan Livestock, Tamworth, with Paul Dooley as auctioneer.
