With 676 mixed-quality cattle on offer, agents were anxious before the opening bids: but in a sign of hopeful possibility, the entire yarding sold, albeit on an easing market.
The offering was almost completely dominated by black cattle and M.D and J.J Anderson Pty Ltd, Crookwell director, Greg Anderson thought the sale was “satisfactory under the circumstances.”
“The season is definitely starting to bite but the stock still presented in good order,” he said.
“Values were pretty good considering the outlook.”
The best of the weaner steers sold from $550 to $785, with one pen of 12 month steers selling for $820.
The better weaner heifers sold from $325 to $660 while a pen of 12 month Angus heifers sold for $750.
PTIC females sold to $950 while cows with calves topped at $1220.
The SELX sash for Best Presented pen of Steers went to J.B O’Reilly for his 27 Angus, weighing 266kg and sold for $660.
Other weaner steer sales included 16 Herefords sold by Lochness Pty Ltd for $450, 14 Angus, Glenroy-blood sold by M and J Merriman for $725 and 20 Angus, Bannaby-blood and weighing 287kg sold by Bannaby Investments, Taralga for $785.
The SELX sash for Best Presented Pen of Heifers was awarded to Bannaby Investments, for their pen of 21 Angus, Bannaby-blood and weighing 244kg which sold for $545.
Other good sales of weaner heifers included 15 Angus, weighing 291kg sold by Bannaby Investments for $660, J.L Corby, Taralga sold 12 Angus cross, July/August drop for $550 and Coots Creek sold 17 Angus, August/September drop, Rennylea/Bongongo-blood for $540.
The Glenleigh Partnership, Gunning sold four Angus heifers, June/July 2017 drop for $750, and partner Graham Privett said similar heifers sold last year for $1140.
The few pens of PTIC females sold to $950 for nine mixed-age Angus joined to Charolais sold by L. D Norton and Co, while Dakluver and Bell sold nine Poll Hereford cows six-years and joined to Angus for $770.
The SELX sash for Best Presented Cows was awarded to L.D Norton and Co, for their 21 mixed-age Angus PTIC to Charolais and sold for $770.
Other sales of females included four Simmental cross cows with calves sold by Grant Bloodstock for $1220, while D Kleuver and K Bell sold eight Angus on first calf and rejoined for $1080 and P. G Hoskins sold five Charolais with first calves and rejoined for $970.
Buyers attended from Wodonga, Tumut, Gundagai, Wagga Wagga, Temora, Bungendore and Braidwood while commission buyers also operated on suitable pens. Agents connected with SELX conducted the sale.
