Blustery and wet conditions across the eastern Monaro didn't deter committed wool growers from visiting flocks entered on the first day of the 89th Berridale Annual Merino Ewe Competition.

The sun did shine briefly but judges Richard Chalker, Lach River Merinos, Darbys Falls, and Patrick Davis, Demondrille Merinos, Harden accepted the conditions as did the many spectators.
“It is a credit to the breeders who are willing to put their sheep up for competition and scrutiny,” Mr Chalker said.
Run under the auspices of the Berridale Agricultural Bureau it is a feature of the Merino calender.
Committee secretary Tim Jardine said it is a shame more wool growers don’t take the time to attend the competition.
“We would like to see more people come along … not just from the Monaro but across the state,” he said.
“It gives wool growers a chance to see what other producers are doing and they can compare notes.”
