Wauchope Stock and Estate Agents annual weaner sale sold 571 head on Saturday to a top of $980 with some going to Yarrowitch and others remaining local.
Agent principal John O’Brien said market trends compared to district sales in recent weeks were fully firm for top steers, selling from 265 cents a kilogram to 316c/kg or $800 to $980.
Small, light steers bucked the recent trend selling from 350c/kg to 460c/kg and making $460 to $690. Best heifers were dearer making 258c/kg to 308c/kg or $650 to $770. Smaller heifers sold to strong competition making 240c/kg to 278c/kg returning $430 to $610.
Sale topping steers at $980 were Charolais/ Santa cross, 310kg, sold by Tim Duffy, Comboyne going to local finishers the Beck family. Hereford steers from Wayne and Sharon Gill, Beechwood, sold to $940 also going to the Beck family.
Angus steers from Michael Burke, Wauchope, sold to $790 and went to Yarrowitch finisher Murray O’Keefe who purchased 38 of the best steers on the day. Russell French, Lorne, sold Brangus/ Angus steers at seven months for $780.
Richard and Robyn Lyon, Toms Creek, yarded 69 steers and heifers by Charolais over Angus/ Hereford selling to $730 for steers and $680 for heifers. Dan Latham, Comboyne, sold Simmental/ Brahman cross steers to $800. Hereford heifers seven to eight months from the Gill family sold for $730 and went to Macleay breeder Shane Warwick.
Angus heifers, 10 months, from Richard and Robyn Lyon, Toms Creek, sold to Kevin and Jenny Atkins, Comboyne, for their MSA finishing program.
