TITAN’S customers — both end users and original equipment manufacturers — are beginning to shift from the old mindset that standard dual configurations work well in every application.
According to Titan, if growers aren’t running the tractor between the rows post-emergence, there’s really no reason to be running duals. In fact, it is causing unnecessary pinch row compaction by doing so.
By running super singles, a grower will not only reduce field disturbance, but they will experience better ride quality and improve the ability to work in wet field conditions that would otherwise be inaccessible.
A survey deployed via AgWeb in February 2017 revealed only about one-third of growers have a need to frequently run between the rows post-emergence.
With more than 70 per cent of mechanical front wheel drive (MFWD) tractors coming factory-equipped with narrow duals, there is a clear need for the industry to shift toward more flotation options on MFWD tractors.
Working with agronomists, Delta New Holland conducted a field study on two identical test plots planting corn in Sikeston, Missouri – one planted with a tractor running a narrow dual configuration, the other planted with Goodyear Extreme Flotation tyres.
Results showed that the test plot with the extreme flotation tyres yielded five more bushels per acre compared to the duals.
