Grafton store sale on Thursday yarded 1130 head selling steers to a top of $1197 and heifers, tested in calf, for $1400. Cows with calves sold to a top of $1620.
Prices were down compared to recent sales in line with the season but local bidding created enough demand.
Steers to 400kg sold from 158 cents a kilogram to 290c/kg to average 250c/kg or $615.
Milk tooth and two-tooth yearlings, 400 to 500kg, sold from 251c/kg to 262c/kg to average 259c/kg or $1122.
Heifers to 540kg sold from 130c/kg to 244c/kg to average 202c/kg or $490.
Cows to 400kg sold from 100c/kg to 140c/kg to average 120c/kg, cows 400 to 520kg made 116c/kg to 176c/kg to average 148c/kg. Cows over 520kg made 161c/kg top 175c/kg top average 169c/kg.
Heifers sold open auction averaged $1231 while cows with calves sold the same way averaged $1047.
Brian and Vida Fahey, Winegrove, sold quiet Charolais by a Trustum bull with their milk tooth and two-tooth steers, 467kg, topping the sale at 256c/kg to bring $1197 going to George Hardacre, Central Bucca.
Brian and Charlie Killmore, Kinchela Lower Macleay, paid almost as much for two-tooth black baldy steers, 470kg at 253c/kg to come back at $1190.
Sharyn and Daphne Farlow, James Creek, sold Angus steers, 248kg at 274c/kg or $679 going to Deervale Partnership, Dorrigo, which also bought Angus from Kahuna Pastoral, Ulmarra, 289kg at 288c/kg or $833.
Des Kilmer, “Strawberry Hills” Glen Innes, sold Angus and Black Baldy weaner steers, 250kg at 272c/kg bringing $680 and going to David Gillett, “Oakpark”.
Jason and Darlene Townsend purchased a number of Cattle for their new property at Coldstream, averaging $597 at 237c/kg and topping at $785 for milk tooth Angus, 326kg at 240c/kg.
Peter and Glenda Ballard, Copmanhurst, sold Droughtmaster steers, 265kg at 238c/kg to bring $631.
Adam and Belinda Chapman, Fineflower, sold first cross Brahman/ Hereford steers 282kg for 280c/kg or $789 going to the Department it Primary Industries research station at Trenayre for $789.
A Brown Swiss vealer steer, 285kg, sold to Northern Co-Operative Meat Company, Casino, for 202c/kg or $576. Holstein bobby calves, 200kg, made 174c/kg or $348. Shorthorn steers, 239kg, made 220c/kg or $526.
Bryson Walters, Bucca, sold Angus heifers weaned on grain, 337kg at 244c/kg to bring $823 going to his near neighbour and commission buyer George Hardacre, who will take them home for finishing.
Charolais over first cross red tagged heifers from the Cureton family topped the sale in their division bringing $1400.
