This year’s sale will showcase 31 bulls and eight females from 12 vendors – Amber Park, Wingham; Back Creek, Wallabadah; River View, Dorrigo; Woodlock, Butterwick; Riviere Vue, Singleton; Sherma, Singleton; and new studs Almar and Halls Creek, Scone; Costello Pastoral, Walcha; Angledale, Willow Tree; Lyndhurst, Wallarobba; and CB Limousins, Delungra.
Committee member Kirstin Bailey said the multi-vendor sale was a good opportunity for new studs to sell their cattle.
The bulls are mainly suited at commercial operations, but some have gone to studs in the past, with buyers coming from NSW and Victoria.
“We got a few new studs, and it is a tough year with drought conditions, but hopefully we can grow from here,” Mrs Bailey said.
“The bulls are very versatile and suited to most markets. No matter what your enterprise, there’s sure to be something to complement and enhance your program. Even through the extreme drought conditions felt throughout the Upper Hunter and majority of the state our vendors have taken a lot of time and effort in preparing quality animals for the 2018 sale.”
All lots will be vet checked prior to sale, with animals inspected for docility, structure, weight, pregnancy status and obvious physical fertility abnormalities.
All bulls will be scanned during the vetting process, giving buyers more information to assist them with selection.
Last year’s sale topped at $13,000 for black Limousin TCW Lucky Fiction, a 22-month-old son of Manali Fiction F53 and Oakvale Fenella bred by Tyson and Courtney Will, Swinton, Delungra. Lucky Fiction was purchased by first-time buyer Ron Doran, Mungindi.
The females topped at $5500 for Back Creek Marmalade bred by Col and Lorna McGilchrist from Wallabadah. The 11-month old apricot heifer, by Wulfs Zander X921Z, was purchased by Les and Sue Spackman, Kurrawhyba stud, Taree.
The bulls averaged $5600 and females averaged $3136.
