Farmers are owed up to $30 million in compensation for overcharged registration costs, according to the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party.
Shooters Orange MP Phil Donato says he has documents disclosing that farmers have been overcharged “about $32 million over the past 20 years for their concessional vehicle registration”.
“The integrity of this Government has been in question of late, and these revelations do nothing to quell community concern,” Mr Donato said..
“There is question over their ability to govern and whether they're genuine about their concern for farmers, many of whom are struggling to put food on their table, let alone feed the starving stock in their bare paddocks.
“Roads Minister Melinda Pavey has a lot to explain, but more urgently she has a lot to reimburse our farmers.”
A legislative error is said to have caused the loss of concessions under the old primary producer concession scheme for vehicle registration.
Mr Donato claimed the government new about this form earlier this year but had not acted.
Roads Minister Melinda Pavey said Mr Donato was “playing politics” in the drought. Further comment was being sought.
