Leonard Mattis, founder and director of M Global was handed the baton at One Tree earlier this year by Hay local Sally Smith, who began restoring the building almost 15 years ago.
Born and raised in London’s East-End, he moved to Australia in 1998, but left Sydney 18 months ago to embark on a road trip through Outback NSW.
He stopped in Hay to refuel and have a bite to eat and just five days later he was hired by Hay Shire Council as a tourism consultant.
Now living and working from the One Tree Hotel, Mr Mattis wants to bring contemporary experiences of music, arts and culture to the region.
