A NEW bulk buyer and the return of repeat commercial bull clients from as far as Tasmania saw prices pushed to $14,000 at the Weebollabolla Shorthorns Annual Bull Sale at Moree on Friday.
All but four of the reduced 71 bull offering from the Munro family were sold at auction for a 94 per cent clearance and an average of $5923.
It was the second lot of the day, Weebollabolla Manchee M327, who topped the catalogue offering when he was secured for $14,000 by the Morgan family, The Grove, Meandarra, Queensland, who also purchased the top priced sire last year.
Manchee M327 was a son of Yamburgan Ossie G10 out of Weebollabolla Dairy F369 with estimated breeding value (EBV) Index figures in the top five per cent and calving ease figures of +2.7, the top 10 per cent for the breed.
The 852 kilogram sire had P8 and Rib fat depths of 13 and seven millimetres, an eye muscle area of 128sq cm and an intramuscular fat score of 6.3 per cent.
With a number of key buyers unable to attend the sale due to the impacts of dry conditions, the Munro family reduced their offering significantly to ensure their catalogue reflected demand.
It proved to be a crucial decision with the 27 withdrawals allowing for a strong clearance of their smaller catalogue.
Among the buyers on the day was new client, the Campbell family, Currawarra, Mitchell, Queensland, who secured 11 bulls averaging $4000.
The Wagner family, Winnaleah, Tasmania, travelled to the sale to secure four bulls averaging $8500.
The sale was conducted by Elders and Bob Jamieson Agencies with Paul Dooley as auctioneer.
