THE Corkhill family from Normanhurst Border Leicester stud at Boorowa hit a $3000 high today during their 14th annual on-property sale.
A total of 47 rams were sold to average $1186. Fifteen specially selected rams were offered of which 14 sold.
Michael and John Perabo from Allambi, Boorowa, secured the $3000 sale-topper, Normanhurst 101/17 a son of New Armatree 17/15 from Normanhurst 193/15.
The twin-born ram weighed 114.5 kilograms at 13 months and had an eye muscle depth (EMD) of 41 millimeters.
With a birth weight of five kg, the NH101/17 ram attracted the Perabos for its low birth weight, nice shape and confirmation and the fact it was a twin.
The Perabos join about 60 Border Leicesters annually, and breed their own rams. They buy in specially selected rams, such as the sale-topper and have purchased from the Normanhurst stud before.
This week they sold first-cross ewes on-farm that were one-year-olds for $250 to Koorawatha.
The Perabos also purchased Normanhurst 32 for $1600.
Normanhurst 256/17 was the second top-priced ram who sold for $2750 to the Treanor family from Kildara Glen Border Leicester stud of Amaroo Downs, Duramana near Bathurst.
Sired by the Normanhurst 93/12 from Normanhurst 12/14, the single-born 12-month-old ram weighed 114.5kg with an EMD of 42mm.
Wiregrass Pastoral Company, Boorowa, were the largest volume buyers who put together a draft of seven rams to a top of $1600, to average $1000.
Other major buyers, all who took home five rams each, were TR. and SM. McGrath, Boorowa, RJ. Hain, Gunyah, Cooma, and JA. Culley Jnr and Company, Crookwell.
Nearly all registered buyers purchased with 18 of the 20 bid cards marking up rams to take home.
Landmark and Elders conducted the sale with Steve Ridley and Rick Power sharing the auctioneer duties.
