The Dubbo Turf Club was the venue for the first of seven qualifying races for the $500,000 Newhaven Park Country Championships Final which will be held on Saturday, April 6.
The first and second place runners who are both trained in Dubbo will attend the final at Royal Randwick.
The winner, Westlink is owned by Darryl Juratowitch and is trained by Darren Hyde, while the aptly named Sons of Bourke is trained by Clint Lundholm and is owned by Frank Hollman, Glen Knight, Mark Spencer, and Kurt Dickson who all come from Bourke.
Liliana Birchall from Mudgee and Lachlan Cusack from Dubbo were named the best dressed lady and gent on the day while Edith Osborne from Wellington, who at 92 received a highly commended award from the judges and was unquestionably the crowd favourite.
