Brayden Gilmore, Baringa sheep studs, Oberon had an exacting time judging the Suffolk classes which featured strong representatives of the breed on display at the 2019 Royal Canberra Show.
The champion ram was exhibited by Gordon Close, and his daughter Charlotte, Closeup stud, Finley.
They also paraded the reserve champion ram.
“I’m extremely happy with the champion and reserve, they are outstanding rams with a lot of potential,” Mr Gilmore said.
“Both carried themselves well, and each has a sirey outlook with plenty of twist and loin but I felt the champion just had a little bit more finish.”
The champion ram had come through the shorn milk-tooth class and this was his first time in the show ring.
The champion ewe, a graduate of the shorn ewe class was also shown by Gordon and Charlotte Close, Closeup, Finley while the reserve champion was exhibited by David Leischke and his daughter Zoe, Otto stud, Walla Walla.
“This was an outstanding lineup of Suffolk ewes,” Mr Gilmore said as he began his appreciation of the breed.
“The champion is one of the better Suffolk ewes I have seen, she has a great topline and is a very powerful ewe with a lot of presence.
"That is not taking anything away from the reserve ewe.
"She is also a very good ewe but came up against the champion today.”
The breed group of one ram and two ewes was won by the Closeup stud, Finley.
