With 3520 head yarded for their March weaner sale at Inverell last Thursday, CL Squires and Company agent Robbie Bloch said they had some very good pens of cattle although they are a lot lighter than previous years.
"Due to the season we yarded a good number of cattle which would normally have been held over until April and May," he said.
"The lead of our Angus at 300kg made just short of 270 cents a kilogram with the bulk of Angus steers selling from 255c/kg to 275c/kg.
"There were some really heavy Euro-cross steers 320kg to 330kg which sold for 280c/kg at the top and consistently made 270c/kg to 275c/kg with weight."
Top price for the steers was $944.35 paid for Herefords weighing 347.2kg and sold by Beverley Pastoral, Bundarra.
Other solid sales of steers included $721.13 for weaners weighing 268kg sold by P and N Butcher, Bundarra; while DJ and C.M Beveridge, Ashford received $689.49 for weaners weighing 258.2kg and Clerkness Pastoral Co, Bundarra secured $899.20 for stock weighing 320kg.
Mr Block said there was a lot of interest on the hiefers from the north and south particularity for Angus and black baldy types.
Top heifers were Angus sold by Clerkness Pastoral Co, Bundarra for $645.62 which weighed 293.5kg; while MA Perkuhn, Inverell received $613.75 for heifers weighing 281.5kg and CJ and RJ Boland, Bingara received $458.94 for 198.7kg.
Buyers from Winton, Queensland, Hamilton and Pakenham, Victoria, Mt Gambier, South Australia and Coonamble secured stock.
