The Canberra-trained Southern Gamble has won the 70th Grenfell Picnic Cup.


The 70th anniversary, Doug Allen Memorial Grenfell Picnic Cup has been run and won by the Doug Gorrel, Canberra trained Southern Gamble.

Victorian jockey, Natasha Baxter was aboard the seven-year-old gelding for his eighth victory.

Off the track the Grenfell locals dominated the fashions in the field claiming six of the titles, in particular the Squires family with Emerson, Amelia and Martin named the best dressed girl, trendy teen and best dressed gent.

The best dressed boy Henry Power, trendy teen Mat Brenner and this year's contemporary lady, Emma Duval were also from Grenfell.

Georgina Beattie from Evans Plains took home the prize for the best millinery while Viviana Croker from Canberra was named the lady of the day.

Deb and Len Parish from Bungendore were named the best dressed couple.
