With 5844 head yarded last Friday for the weaner sale at SELX Yass, restockers and feedlot operators continue to make their presence felt even though the seasonal outlook is not promising.
It was the largest weaner sale held at SELX saw a mixed quality offering penned.
Light weights were well supplied showing the effects of the season, but there were plenty of weaners with cover and weight.
Angus weaners made up the bulk of the yarding that sold to a cheaper trend of $100 to $140 according to MLA reporter Graeme Richard.
The quality was fair with the large percentage of lightweights showing the effects of the season but there were still plenty of steers and heifers with good cover and weight

Weaner steers to 200kg sold from $230 to $510 while those weighing 200-280kg made from $390 to $885 and heavier steers sold from $665 to a top of $1,045.
The yarding was dominated by black cattle and values for Angus steers averaged approximately 270c while there was a discount for other breeds at 240c to 260c/kg.
The heifer market was strong with those of medium weight which represented most of those on offer sold from $300 to $655 and heavier weights made from $555 to $670.
The range of values for heifers varied from 170c to 220c/kg.
Best presented pen sponsored by Conron was awarded to Pine Ridge Pastoral, Woodhouslee.
Top price in the steers was $1045 paid for 29 Angus weighing 363.4kg and offered by Pine Ridge Pastoral, Woodhouslee, while Helen and Tony Griffin, Uriara sold 22 Angus weighing 273kg for $815 and John McCue, Wheeo sold 21 Angus cross weighing 266kg for $695.
Among the pens of heifers, Peter Keary, Bannister received the sash for the best presented pen sponsored by Conron Stockcrete, Grenfell; weighing 292kg, the 18 Angus sold for $655.
A pen of 10 Angus heifers also weighing 292kg and offered by Bruce McGregor, Taralga sold for $655 while Adrian and Greg Holt, Stockinbingal sold 21 Shorthorn heifers weighing 314kg for $555 and ten Angus heifers weighing 323.5kg for $630.
Buyers from Bathurst, Adelong, Crookwell, Bega and Cowra competed with interstate restockers.
