Agents report what was possibly one of the best runs of 290 - 340kg calves that have been offered in local sales this year thanks to a good late seasonal break in the district when 2011 head were offered by Elders Cleary McDowell, W.J Gibbs and Co and Schute Bell.
Local competition prevailed over most grades of calves on offer, also strong competition from Monaro and south west slopes.
Angus steers weighing 430kg sold for $1259, while heifers weighing 331kg sold for $960 to local restockers.
W.J Gibbs and Co agent Jacob Rayner reported strong interest despite the widespread lack of paddock feed.
"Local competition prevailed over most grades of the calves on offer, but there was also strong competition from Monaro and south west slopes" he said.
Among the pens of young calves, the best sold for $885 when N Lavis from Braidwood offered Angus steers weighing 298kg, while the calves offered by V and M Royds weighed 330kg and sold for $960.
Lighter steers throughout the yarding averaged 273c/kg.
Yearling steers sold by S Hatch and weighing 366kg sold for $1105 while Alimfind Pty Ltd sold Angus cross steers weighing 430kg for $1259 and D Waghorn sold 346kg Angus steers for $1004.
Mr Rayner said there was interest in the top end heifer calves from breeders with Hannaford Cattle Co. recieving $960 for their offering weighing 331kg.
Yearling heifers sold on account A.T J.T Adamson eighed 418kg and made $1016 while D and H Goddard sold heifers weighing 312kg for $820 back to restockers.
Springrange Partnership had some very good 361kg Angus cross heifers purchased by processors for $939.
