The sun shone on Gulgong, providing a perfect winters day for the running of the annual Gulgong Gold Cup. In an exciting finish it was the Tamworth trained Mr Pumblechook first over the line closely followed by More Than Art who is trained in Gilgandra by Bryan Dixon and the local, Brett Thompson trained favourite Attalea.
Mr Pumblechook is a five-year-old bay gelding by Hinchinbrook out of the Exceed And Excel mare, Sugar Rose and is trained by Cody Morgan and was ridden by Tamworth based apprentice Wendy Peel, who was extremely happy to have her first winner back after a recent nasty fall in Tamworth.
For the second day in a row Michelle Meyers from Mudgee was the judge's pick for the best dressed lady with Carmen Holden-Smith also from Mudgee named the runner-up.
