A large percentage of cattle coming into Wodonga last week were from northern NSW as producers delivered cattle to areas with more feed.
Brian Unthank, Ruar Rodwells, Schubert and Boers and Corcoran Parker yarded around 2120 cattle.
Corcoran Parker livestock manager David Meehan said the dry conditions in areas around Tamworth, Inverell and Dunedoo, in NSW, had seen cattle sent south.
Mr Meehan said feedlotters were active as usual on the heavier cattle but many also went back into the paddock.
He said the steer job was very, very good and heifers were firm.
RJ Vinge, Berringama, sold Angus steers, 8-10 months, with the first line of 21, 355 kilograms, making $1260 a head or 355 cents a kilogram.
The second pen of 32, 316kg, made $1150 or 364c/kg, while a pen of 280kg-average steers made 361c/kg or $1010.
A Colquhoun, Merrijig, forwarded a pen of 10 Angus steers, 7-8 months and just 242kg that sold for $890 or 367c/kg.
Penderlea Grazing, Thredbo, NSW, sold 13 steers, 10-11 months, 321kg, that made $1195 or 372c/kg.
LT&CE Briggs, Corryong, sold two pens of Angus steers, 10-12 months, 381kg, that topped at $1340, or 352c/kg.
Eight Angus steers, 308kg, sold by JM&GC Curran, Granya, made $1100, or 360c/kg.
Of the northern drafts, J&J Hunter, Dunedoo, sold 22 Angus steers, 302kg, for $1030 or 341c/kg, ID&DM McGaffin, Little Dunraven, Woomargama, NSW, consigned mixed-sex Simmentals with the steer portion selling to a top of $980 or 351c/kg on 279kg for 11.
DM&MS Robertson, Finley, NSW, sold 21 Hereford steers, 315kg, to $1125 or 357c/kg, while SR Shaw's steers, 348kg, made $1130 or 324c/kg.
Birkalla Partnership, Dunedoo, sold 28 Hereford steers, 286kg, making $910 or 318c/kg, and 48 at 250kg, for $770 or 308c/kg.
A line of 26 Limousin-cross steers, same vendor, 260kg, made $820 or 315c/kg.
J & R Scales, Mitta Mitta, sold 18 Hereford steers, 333kg, for $1000, or 300c/kg, while 30 Poll Hereford steers sold by Standbye Pastoral, Tamworth, NSW, weighed 265kg and sold for $905, or 353c/kg.
SM&C Nott, Tallara, Gulgong, NSW, sold Charolais-cross calves, 11 months, with the steer portion, 300kg, topping at $1080 or 352c/kg, and the heifers to $870.
Limousin-cross calves from AJ&MR Cheesly, Indigo Valley, sold to $1060 or 345c/kg and the heifer portion made $900 or 310c/kg.
BN&A Maplestone, Katunga, sold an excellent line of Angus/Friesian-cross heifers, 28 months and pregnancy-tested-in-calf, to $1870 for the top pen of 12 and $1750 for a pen of eight.
L&C Glass, Yackandandah, sold 13 Angus heifers, 15-16 months, 363kg, for $1125, or 310c/kg.
The heifer portion of the Birkalla consignment saw the tops of 54 Angus, 280kg, make $835 or 298c/kg
A line of 54 lighter heifers, 256kg, made $745, or 291c/kg and 32 Shorthorn heifers, 270kg, made $720 or 266c/kg.
The Vinge heifers sold in two lines with 35, 273kg, making $800, or 293c/kg and 13, weighing 242kg selling for $700 or 291c/kg.
Thirteen Penderlea heifers, 294kg, made $845, or 287c/kg.
