Passions often emerge from unexpected places.
For William Schibeci, it was a part-time job in a bottle shop that sparked an appreciation which would alter his journey forever.
A journalism student, studying in Sydney at the time, William decided to leave the pen behind and tell stories through the delicate balance of an Australian blend instead.
Following a stint in the Hunter Valley, a move to South Australia and many wines later, William is currently studying his Bachelor in Viticulture & Oenology, has two WSET certificates and is delving deeper into his wine knowledge with the help of a KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarship.
William said he has never looked back and is excited for his future in the Australian Wine Industry.
"My ultimate career goal is to make wine in a setting where I believe in the product I am creating," he said.
"I am passionate about studying international wine regions and styles, but due to the program costs, it has been difficult to save while studying full-time.
"With the KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarship, I am now able to further my education in this aspect of wine theory.
"I think a greater understanding for international wine styles will not only benefit me but the Australian wine community too."
The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) Foundation offers two wine scholarships - the KPMG Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarship and the the Sydney Royal Wine Assessment Scholarship.
