Milwillah Angus set new stud record average at $9850

The sale smashed all Milwillah's stud records with a new average of $9979, while on the way seeing all 77 bulls pushed to a new record top of $62,500.

Milwillah Nardoo N155 met everyone's expectation in the flesh as he strode into the ring as lot two, commanding the attention of every budding cattle man or woman ringside.

He set the sale alight as auctioneer Andrew Wishart kicked him along at a rate of knots, before knocking him to long time clients Maria and betty Roche, Arden Angus, Adelong for $62,500.

He is a son of Milwillah Lannister, and grandson of Matauri Reality 839, with a pedigree that included elite sires Blackpearl, Elevator and Hingaia 469 and industry matriarch's Dream G71 and Y301, Lowan X64 and Lowan R426.

Maria Roche said they had been building their stud for a while, breeding commercial bulls and females for sale.

"He will allow us now to take the next step and really push our program," she said.

"We loved his balance and great temperament, matched with a really impressive 600 day weight and a good low birth weight figure that wasn't too low," she said.

The outcross bloodlines were an attraction to the Roches who will now look to join him to some selected stud heifers and potentially sell some semen from him.

CH and CT McKinlay, Bloodwood, Emerlad, QLD, followed suit paying the top of $40,000, for what many thought was the best of a elite flush of brothers by Koupals B&B Identity, by the elite Milwillah female Barunah k26, with the four brothers averaging $25,500 across the draft.

Steve and Jodie Peake, Peakes Angus, Barraba, was one of those buyers paying $25,000 for Milwillah Identity P134 who had a good length of body with an exceptional top line and regarded by Mr Peake saying his structural soundness and great balance of data set him above the rest.

Mr Peake said they had seen his sire on their recent US trip and he was the most outstanding sire we saw while over there.

"The limited semen out of him makes him attractive as did the cow lines that backed him up," he said.

Fred and Stuart Geard, Premier Angus, Mangoplah, paid $24,000 for Milwillah Napa N498 a Matauri Reality son, in the top one per cent for marbling, top 2pc for calving ease and scrotal and rounding it out at top 3pc for rib and P8 fat.

Fred Geard said they were chasing a bull with marbling and fat cover, combined with good gestation length that will fit into their program.

"He is a heavy muscled, stout calf that will produce excellent calves and he is just a good honest productive bull," he said.

Mr Geard said he was an extremely high IMF bull at +4.1, with rib and rump fat scores at +2.7 and +2.9 respectively that is also an outcross sire that is not a Berkley or Regent.

Ulladulla Pastoral Company, Holbrook, set a floor in the market, buying eight bulls for a $8333 average that were easy doing bulls with high IMF, positive rib and rump with strong 600 day growth figures.

Spokesman for Ulladulla Pastoral Company Tim Wright, Holbrook, said they were calving down 1200 cows now and will join 600 heifers, to produce calves for the feeder steer market at 45okg at 12 to 14 months.

Ferdie Foster, Rosedale, Campbelltown, Tasmania, paid $28,000 for the last of the Identity sons, who he believed had plenty of fleshing and length, coupled with a good solid frame, that would be a good commercial type bull to join with a portion of his 1000 cow herd.

AP and LP McKinlay, Callandoon, Springsure, QLD, paid $26,000 for a new sire, Kidman Angus, Gilgandra and Cascade Angus, Currabubula, shared the spoils in a new sore at $30,000, while Landmark Alice Springs, Alice Springs, averaged seven at $4000.

Rounding out the sale Kriden Investments, Westleigh, paid to $20,000 for five bulls, averaging $11,200, while Buchan Station, East Gipplsand, Victoria, loaded three at a $7000 average and Rossgole Pastoral Co, Aberdeen, grossed $31,000 for their five.

The sale was conducted by Elders and Landmark with Andrew Wishart as the auctioneer.
