A "cracker of a bull" topped the Southern Limousin Breeders Sale last Friday at Moss Vale when new buyer Bernie McGlinchey of Jamberoo snapped up Progress Nascar N13 for $5000.
Offered by the Kylstra family of Progress Limousins, Yanco, the homo-polled two-year-old son of Wulfs Amazing Bull T341A from Shalone Black Shadow K272 was one of six bulls sold of 10 on offer that averaged $3583.
Running a mixed herd of 210 crossbred cows, Mr McGlinchey aims to sell the calves through Nowra saleyards straight off their mothers at nine months of age, weighing around the 340 kilograms mark, off grass.
"He is running with cows now ... I always like to have calves dropping on the ground," he said. "I've always used good bulls from Donna Valley, and normally I go for apricots but I couldn't go passed this bull - he is a cracker."
Females were also offered with three cow/calf units sold to a top of $2800 and average of $2200, while three heifers sold to a top of $2000 and average of $1800.
The top-priced cow and calf package was Kia Ora Melody, a three-year-old daughter of Wulfs Zane X238Z from Kia Ora Ebony that was offered with a heifer calf by Michael and Mary Parsons, Roslyn. She sold for $2800 to Ross and Margaret Alexander, Roscoe Park stud, Sutton Forest.
Flash-Jax Necessity was the $2000 top-priced heifer bought by Brett Turner, Crookwell. The 14-month-old was sold unjoined by vendor Matt Griffin, Bega.
The sale was conducted by Landmark with auctioneer Daniel Croker, Goulburn.
