The season is tough, but there are some good prices to be had by choosing carefully where to sell.
Landmark livestock salesman, Neal Elliott, Cunnamulla, Qld, shared this photo with The Land of a line of Raff-blood Angus heifers sold through last Thursday's Dubbo prime cattle sale.
He was impressed with the price achieved by his client, Nemunmulla Pastoral, Cunnamulla, which runs both Angus and Santa Gertrudis.
Their usual selling venue, Dalby, Qld, was about the same distance as Dubbo, but with the prospect of better prices, the cattle were consigned to Landmark Milling Thomas and trucked south.
"It's a shame to get their heads cut off, but with the prevailing outlook for rain, when they're fat, they've got to go," Mr Elliott said.
All up, they sold 50 Angus heifers, four and six tooth, averaging 498.3kg, unjoined, to top at 293 cents a kilogram and a $1460 average.
They also sold 24 Charolais/Angus steers, 357.5kg, for 307c/kg, or $1098.24/hd.
