Raby Merino stud's ram selection day at Weealla, Balladoran, on Monday October 14 attracted many with long term clients looking to select their new season rams.
Stud co-owner David McBurnie said clients were seeking rams that would continue to breed progeny that grow typically big wool cuts and growthy wether lambs which attract buyers either in the saleyards or over the hooks that Raby was renowned for.
However, Mr McBurnie said there were many western clients holding off for the season to break before acquiring their annual ram supply which they have been purchasing for numerous years some, as long as 40 years.
Vince Cudden, Wahringa, Wellington, purchased seven specially selected rams, with Raby199 taking the eye, for his 19.1 micron fleece with 3.8 micron standard deviation and 19.9 per cent coefficient variation plus a 99.5pc comfort factor.
This ram won the fine/medium wool lamb class at the 2019 Dubbo National and his fleece is very bright and crimpy.
Angus Carter of Landmark, Walcha, bought six rams for Greg Readford, Gulargambone, averaging $1250.
