Despite no cattle from northern NSW being entered in last year's feedback trial due to severe drought in the area, the 2020 event has 50 head entered from the Armidale, Tamworth and Gunnedah areas.
Cattle were also collected from central points including Dubbo, Yass, Carcoar and Wagga Wagga, along with Kyneton and Barnawartha in Victoria.
Priding themselves on appearance, punctuality, and providing the utmost care for livestock whilst on their journey with the company, Shanahan's has been on board with the Feedback Trial for five years, continuing to strengthen their relationship with clients and Teys Australia.
Shanahan's owner Dominic Shanahan said they had carted a lot of cattle a large distance of the last 12 months and they have noticed a number of cattle moving in a southerly direction.
"Since about Easter this year cattle have been going from the north of NSW and southern Queensland to mid to sourthen NSW ... they are moving in a southerly direction," Mr Shanahan said.
"Its not unusual but we are noticing a lot more cattle, because of the bad conditions in the north. It is worse than it has ever been and more people are having to offload more cattle."
To ensure animals travel safely and as best they can, he said preparation and communication was key.
"Preparation is a big thing, especially if carting them a long distance ... You need to load accordingly," he said.
"The industry has come a long way ... and there is more consultation when it comes to the process of loading. There is consultation and communication between carriers, agents, producers and feedlots in terms of how to load, best way to curfew and timing to load."
Participants in the 2020 NSW Beef Spectacular Feedback Trial will have the opportunity to view their teams during the competitions mid-trial field day held this Thursday at Teys Australia Jindalee Feedlot.
