Beer all round as Adaminaby kicks up its heels

After a heavy dust storm the previous day, the skies cleared for race day and the ladies and men shone on the Fashions on the Field parade.

And Mitchell Beer's horses shone on the track, picking up two wins including the Snow Goose Hotel Adaminaby Cup with Damselfly's Kept. He won the previous race with Chuparosa.

A top crowd swelled the course for the Feathers, Frills and Finery theme, although plenty of patrons took the 'no frills' option.

It was a grand day for one visitor from Bairnsdale, Victoria, Sally McKenna, who not only took out the Classic Lady fashion award but also got to watch her horse The Blues Brother go around in the Cup, running fourth.

Affectionately known as 'Jimmy' in trainer Jackson Pallot's stables, the horse was a way for his owners to see a bit of Australia and have some fun - and a win almost. The horse ran a close second in the Bombala Cup in October.

Mrs McKenna has a 50 per cent ownership of the horse and wasn't afraid to get out in the saddling area with her new Fashions on the Field sash and winning finery to watch her horse prepare at first hand. "He's a lovely horse, a seven-year-old and he won at Bairnsdale last start, and we are just having a bit of fun with him," she said.

Many patrons travelled from the South Coast including the 'South Coast lads' for the Cup.

Having his first go at calling the races was Nicholas Kutnjak, all the way from Minchinbury in western Sydney, who defied some PA issues to call the races. The club's new 'mountain' finishing post also had its first work out.

Sarah Fraser won the Filly on the Field, with Grace O'Neill the runner-up.

A number of tents were hired for the day including by the Russell and Theobald families.
