Since 1998, a NSW school has been assigned the task of preparing cattle for the show's Schute Bell charity steer auction, raising funds for the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
The steers named Victor and Chang were kindly donated by Terry and Maylene Griffin from Temana Charolais stud located at Baradine.
Targeted to hit the heavyweight classes at Sydney, the steers have been worked on intensively three to four afternoons a week, according to Year 11 student Will van Gend.
Many questions have been asked related to if and how the steer sections of the Sydney Royal Show could still go ahead in some way.
During the past few days, the cattle committee has been working hard to find a solution to the cancellation and a decision as to how to proceed will be made in the coming days.
