Wagga coronavirus: Sydney inbound to city flight potentially exposed to infection

Wagga City Council, which operates Wagga Airport, said in a statement that "the airport terminal building is cleaned thoroughly twice every day, which includes sterilisation of surfaces,"

"Measures are in place for airport staff," the council statement said.

NSW Health is the responsible agency for contacting any airline passengers who might have been exposed to coronavirus.

The state government body said it would inform passengers on the Wagga flight who had been in close contact with the infected person or persons.

NSW Health has advised that a Qantas flight that landed in Wagga was carrying at least on person with a confirmed case of coronavirus.

QantasLink flight QF2221 from Sydney to Wagga on March 19 has been identified on a state government list of "known flights with confirmed cases of COVID-19".

Passengers on QantasLink flight QF2221 on March 19 in rows 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 were defined as being in "close contact" with the infected person or persons.

The flight was scheduled to take off in Sydney at 8.05am on March 19 and land in Wagga at 9.05am.

NSW Health's advice for passengers on flights with a confirmed case of COVID-19 is "All travellers returning or arriving from overseas must self-isolate for 14 days".

"This applies to everyone, even if you have no symptoms," a NSW Health statement said.

"If you develop symptoms, you must call your GP or healthdirect on 1800 022 222 or visit your ED.

"For severe symptoms, such as shortness of breath at rest or difficulty breathing, dial 000."

The number of coronavirus cases diagnosed in the Wagga City Council area has increased by one, taking the total to five as of 8am on Sunday.

Murrumbidgee Local Health District has identified three additional cases, including the Wagga case, taking the region's total to 26.

All cases notified were diagnosed after travelling overseas or being in contact with a confirmed case.

One person diagnosed is in hospital and the other 25 are in "self isolation with support of Public Health Unit," according to a statement from the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
