There was a huge yarding of 2600 head of cattle at the Tamworth store sale on Friday, prices for weaner and yearling cattle backing off slightly from last fortnight's very strong prices.

A limited number of cows and calves sold to a top of $2925 for rejoined Santa cows three to four-years old, with five to six-months Charolais cross calves at foot.
They were offered by Gant Pastoral Company, Lagoon Park, Boggabri.
Pregnancy-tested-in-calf cows jumped in price by around $70 this week, selling to a top of $2290 for a pen of Poll Herefords, four to five-years old, joined with Angus and Black Simmental bulls offered by Tamalie Farms, Quirindi.

Davidson, Cameron and Co livestock agent, Scott Newberry said good weaner and yearling cattle on offer were well sought after by producers with crops just starting to poke their heads out of the ground.
"The best of the weaner and yearling steers got up to a top of $1410 with any of those cattle with some weight making from $1000 to $1400," Mr Newberry said.
"The lighter weights sold from $850 to $950-$1000."
The top pen of Angus steers, aged 10-months, were sold by Lower Hunter Valley account Dunlop for $1410.
Other stand out runs included a line of 10 to 12-month old Angus weaners with Booroomooka and Outwest Angus blood, offered by Lummis, Niangala, selling for $1400.
Mr Newberry said the same vendors offered an exceptional line of Angus yearlings, that topped the heifer portion of the sale at $1260.
"They've gone back to the paddock as breeders for the future which is great," Mr Newberry said.
Weaner heifers sold to $1110 for a pen of seven to eight-month old Angus offered by Braeside, Luskintyre.
The top price for weaner and yearling heifers was back around $200 per head on last sale.
Mr Newberry said there was strong buying support from the local area, alongside interest from the Northern Tablelands and western districts.
The sale was conducted by Tamworth Livestock selling agents.
