DEMAND for quality females was strong at the Dunedoo Special Store Cattle sale last week, where a competitive market drove prices for cow and calf units to $2750.

Nearly 1200 head of cattle were penned at Dunedoo on Wednesday April 29, including a large line up of PTIC cows out of the Dunedoo district.
Milling Stuart agent Angus Stuart, Dunedoo said the market was very strong and well supported.
"There was a great line up of cattle which were competed on very strongly," he said.
The sale was heavily supported by buyers from the top end of the Hunter region through to Inverell. Buyers also travelled from Forbes, Orange and Mudgee, as well as the Dubbo and Narromine districts.
A top quality pen of Angus and Angus cross steers, account the breeder, topped the steer run at $1360/hd while a run of Hereford weaner steers made $1300.
The main run of the Angus weaner steers sold from $1000 to $1240/hd.
In the heifer run, a yard of yearling Santa Gertrudis cross heifers made $1250/hd.
The top pens of Angus weaner heifers made $1190, while the main run of heifers sold from $865 to $1010/hd.
Auctioneer Mark Garland, PT Lord Dakin and Associates, Dubbo said there was very strong support for females.
"It was very hard to buy a light weaner heifer with quality for under $800," he said.
There was a feature line of 400 PTIC cows offered by Stuart Bowman, Birkalla Partnership, Dunedoo.
The Angus portion of the offering topped at $2200/hd while the Shorthorn cows made a top of $2175/hd.
PTIC Santa Gertrudis cows sold from $1925/hd while PTIC Angus cows made from $1875 to $2200/hd.
A yard of advertised Angus cows with four to five-month-old Angus calves at foot made from $2450 to $2750/unit.
The sale was conducted by Milling Stuart, Dunedoo, and PT Lord Dakin and Associates, Dubbo.
