STRONG buyer support pushed prices up at Dunedoo's monthly store cattle sale last Friday, described by agents as one of the strongest sales they'd seen.
PT Lord, Dakin and Associates auctioneer Mark Garland, Dubbo, said it was very hard to buy any calf for less than $1400.
"It was a very good yarding all the way through," he said. "It was met with very solid competition."
Agents yarded 1200 head of quality cattle which attracted solid buying support from the local district, as well as Forbes, Orange, Bathurst, Narromine, Dubbo and the top end of the Hunter Valley.
Steers topped at $1940 a head for a pen of Angus yearlings, while Angus weaner steers topped at $1870/head.
Lyall Woods, Lambing Creek, Hargraves, sold a run of Trio-blood Angus steers, 10 to 11 months at $1870/head.
The bulk of the Angus weaner steers made from $1200 to $1560.
Euro-cross steers sold from $1670 to $1710 while a run of Droughtmaster steers made $1700/head.
Mr Garland said light weaner steers made $1200 to $1300.
"There was a magnificent run of heifers all the way through," Mr Garland said. "It was hard to buy any heifer under $1000."
The tops of the Angus yearling heifers made $1670/head while Angus weaner heifers made $1400 to $1450.
Lighter calves sold to $1200. A pen Droughtmaster heifers made $1500 each.
Cows with calves met solid demand, making up to $3820 for a pen of pregnancy-tested-in-calf Angus cows with large calves from the Gwabegar district, purchased by a local restocker.
A draft of heifers on first and second calves made $3000 a unit.
A line of Santa Gertrudis cows in store condition with calves sold for $2910 a unit.
Cows with calves ranged from $2000 for Brahman-cross units, to $2500 for the better units.
PTIC Shorthorn cows sold on behalf of the Fergusson family, Moreton Bay, Dunedoo, made $2500/head.
Santa Gertrudis and Santa-cross cows in store condition made $1810.
The sale was conducted by Milling Stuart, Dunedoo, and PT Lord, Dakin and Associates, Dubbo.
