But it will be no ordinary day in the shed for Cumnock shearers Jeremy Duffy and Josh Fitzgerald, who will lose their luscious locks for a very good cause tomorrow evening.
Instead of a shed full of Merinos, the boys from J and H Duffy Contracting, Cumnock, will be facing the shears at the Cumnock Bowling Club on Friday evening to raise funds for people diagnosed with blood cancer through the World's Greatest Shave.
They will also be donating their manly manes to be made into wigs for those with the disease who have lost their hair during treatment.
Mr Duffy said the plan came about after they both were already sporting lengthy hairdos, and getting plenty of stick for it.
And so Mr Fitzgerald had an idea about a year ago that they keep the party going and grow their hair to raise funds for the World's Greatest Shave.
And it's been a while between cuts for them - Mr Duffy hasn't had a hair cut since he was in the bridal party at a wedding in 2019.
"Since then I've just cut my fringe now and then with the mulesing shears, but my wife made me stop doing that," he said.
"They're going to get a pretty good wig out of me."
And despite the fact it seems having long hair would be uncomfortable during a long, hot day of shearing or marking lambs, Mr Duffy reckons it comes in handy.
"It has a good insulating quality," he said.
And the tressed two won't be alone.
Mr Duffy's son Charlie, who is in year 6, and his year 5 friend, Rose Flick, both from Cumnock Public School, will also be braving the clippers on Friday night to raise funds for the World's Greatest Shave.
And the burning question is - will they be using a shearing handpiece to shave their heads?
"I don't think there's any shearers in town with a steady enough hand for that," Mr Duffy joked.
And he says there will be benefits to saying goodbye to his long hair.
"I'm looking forward to being able to drive with the window down again," he said.
