IT'S been a couple of months to see a store cattle sale at Dubbo, but last Friday's 1700 head yarding was a bottler, according to agents and spectators with buyers mainly local and from Gunnedah.

The annual heifer sell-off of the Atkinson family's Wonga Santa Gertrudis, Yeoval, met with eager bidding for PTICs topping at $2510.
Weaner cattle filled most pens in the yarding with the better lines holding ground at firm values, although secondary lines were quoted as cheaper.
Off the 740 head of weaner steers Santa Gertrudis up to 200 kilograms made 815 cents a kg live or $1100 while the highest price of $1660 was paid for Angus weaners in the 280kg to 330kg category.
Steer weaners sold from $710 to $1660. The better drafts of weaner heifers from 450 head sold from $580 to $1340, which were also Santa Gertrudis.
Yearling steers made from $1065 to $1490 and heifers $1000 to $1780 for Santas.
The Atkinson family sold a run of 54 Santa Gertrudis PTIC heifers from $1760 to $2510 each while the non-detectable heifers made from $1480 to $1780/hd.
Older cows of just 20 in the category sold from $910 to $1650 for Angus.
Some 160 cows with calves met with solid demand from buyers keen to restock and rebuild herd numbers.
The dearest draft was of eight Angus cows over 550 kg with very young calves selling at $3520 a unit.
Another draft of Angus cows 400kg to 550kg with two-to-four-month calves at foot sold at $3475 a unit.
