Yulgilbar Santa Gertrudis stud sold to a top of $40,000 to average $10,078 for 89 of 93 sold for a 96 per cent clearance and a gross return of $954,971 during a COVID-restricted annual sale on Friday.

The top-priced Yulgilbar Queen Council Q100 homozygous poll, by Moogana Karachi with top one per cent breedplan figures for 200 day growth, and top 5pc for 400 and 600 day growth along with mature cow weight, sold to out-going managers Rob and Lorraine Sinnamon and will enter their own stud, Riverina Santa Gertrudis at Kyogle, which they operate in conjunction with their son Andrew.
Second top price-maker came out of that same family operation, Riverina Quilpie Q004 by Yulgilbar Las Vegas, also homozygous poll and 27 months, selling to repeat client Bendigo Park at Cloncurry, Qld, which took away three sires in total.
Thanks to the wire-less, Queensland continued to dominate the bidding, in spite a border closure, with long-time repeat buyers the Kirkwood family, Disney Station, who organised transport on seven bulls including Yulgilbar Quintus by Tookey Creek Malta M48 for $18,000.
Bill and Gretchen Speed and family, Brig-o-doon Cattle Company, Wandoan, paid $23,000 for Yulgilbar Quickdraw Q176 by Talgai Jango.
Kidman and Co took away five bulls paying to a top of $10,000 for Yulgilbar Qui Qui Q102 by Dunlop Red Hawke.
Back in NSW, David Scarrabelotti of Kyogle-based Greenmount Trading, a vertically operation which includes an abattoir at Coominya, near Ipswich, Qld, bought a baker's dozen of bulls all sold at good value to total $65,000, with these sires to be put over Santa and Brahman cross cows.
Long-time repeat client from the other end of the state, Peter and Wendy Hughes, Thurloo Downs at Wanaaring, bought seven bulls through Nutrien at Bourke to take advantage of a rare season, paying $22,000 for the herd bull Yulgilbar Quarterback Q302 by Cardona Patterson.
Other bulls sold for good value to all Northern Rivers Valleys - from the Tweed to the Macleay - with the David and Carolyne Duff, Toorooka, buying five bulls to a top of $16,000 for the horned Riverina Quatro Q038 by Cardona Patterson P53.
Of the female portion, nine were sold to average $6444 to top at $9000 for the seven year old Yulgilbar K059 by Dangarfield Valiant with a heifer calf at foot and back in calf to Cardona Patterson, bought by new stud owner Georgia Perkins, Corndale, who won her first stud cow at a Santa youth camp in 2019, backed up this year being awarded a heifer.
"I like the way Santas adapt to their environment," she said. "The breed is continuing to evolve and I want to produce a product that is industry relevant and profitable."
The sale was settled by George and Fuhrmann, Casino, with AuctionsPlus waving down 24 lots for $250,000 to average $10,417while Elite Livestock collected 15 lots values at $160,500 to average $10,700.
