CONTINUING to breed dual purpose sheep and increasing their draft to 100, Weealla Merinos and Poll Merinos ran a successful sale on Saturday with all rams sold to a top of $5500 and an overall average of $2010, a growth of $352 on last year.
In the breakdown, all 66 Poll Merinos were sold to a top of $5500 and average of $2189, while 34 Merino rams sold to a top of $3000 and average of $1661. These averages increased by $346 and $385, respectively compared to the 2020 sale results.
Heading to Western Australia, the $5500 top-priced Poll ram, Weealla 346, was a grandson of Collinsville 141.
Growing a 19.3-micron fleece with a 2.9-micron standard deviation (SD), a 15 per cent co-efficient of variation (CV), 99.6pc comfort factor (CF), and an eye muscle depth (EMD) of 41 millimetres eye muscle depth and a fat depth of 5.5mm, he was purchased by Rangeview Merinos, Narrogin, WA, and Claypans stud, Corrigin, WA .
The $3000 top-priced Merino was a June-drop ram, Weealla 80, a son of GLD 3.43, purchased by Tullamore based PT Williams Partnership.

With a 19.1-micron fleece he measured a 2.8-micron SD, a 17.5pc CV and 99.7pc CF, with carcase measurements of 36mm EMD and a fat depth of 5mm.
The Williams Partnership also took home another eight rams, for a draft average of $2083 across the nine.
Volume buyers included the McIntyre family, Narromine, who bought 10 rams for a top of $3500 and average of $2625.
Stud co-principal Stuart McBernie was very happy with the sale. "I thought the sale was very strong throughout, we had a lot of loyal return buyers and with positive sheep sales and the wool market it helped with a better overall sale," he said.
"Everyone got the rams they wanted. We had 23 registered buyers with buyers from both local and interstate areas."
The sale was conducted by Elders and Nutrien with Martin Simmons, Elders, as the auctioneer.
