Records fell at Etiwanda's annual ram sale to top at $24,000

Etiwanda White Dorpers sell 106 rams to a high of $24,000 and average of $4887 breaking all of the stud records.

WITH 20 years of "rangeland ready" breeding and performance recording, the Mosley family at Etiwanda, Cobar, offered 106 rams at their recent annual sale selling to five states with both new and return buyers pushing the prices.

Touted by the stud as 100 per cent grass raised, well grown, and displaying plenty of capacity, muscle and development, all of the increased offering were sold to a stud record of $24,000 smashing the previous high of $6000.

Also a stud record, the average was $4887, surpassing the previous top by $1672.

The top-priced ram, the 99 kilogram Etiwanda 204123 was an August 2020-drop son of Etiwanda182177, with a top 10pc Lambplan figure for the shedding sheep and post weaning eye muscle depth (PEMD), top 20pc for post weaning fat (PFAT) and maternal carcase production.

He was purchased by Australis White Dorpers, Nairne, SA, and Bunnerungie White Dorpers, Wentworth.

Bronte Mawson, Australis White Dorpers, thought he was a beautiful sheep.

"I have been following Etiwanda for years and like their ethics and ethos in what they do, the rams are as near perfect as I have seen," he said.

"Two years ago we purchased the father of this ram, there is something I like about them. We just had to buy him for our breeding program, with his figures, he looks just so good."

New clients, the Robertson Family, Hillston were the volume buyers picking up nine rams to a $4111 average.

Return buyers Tom and Debra Gaston, Balranald purchased eight rams to average $5125.

"We are chasing a bit more fertility in our mob, all the numbers add up with the ASBVs and we need animals that last," Mr Gaston said.

"It didn't matter what ram you bought at the sale, it was that consistent."

Using ASBV information to choose high performing rams for their operation for many years, Dan Munster from DSM Pastoral Co. took home six rams to average $4833.

Also a new client, Darren Beveridge, Baradine, purchased two excellent rams to an $8500 average.

Stud co-principal Megan Mosley was humbled by the support shown at the sale.

"Twenty-years of continuous focus on performance in our environmental conditions has produced a stand out line of rams that are not only eye appealing but highly sought after by both stud and commercial producers." Mrs Mosley said.

"There was a clear premium for animals with better performance data."

"The top price ram was not only a reflection of his physical attributes but also of his balanced performance data."

The sale was conducted by Nutrien Russell, Coba, with John Settree controlling the bids.
