The Australian egg industry is looking shiny, with the pandemic making eggs a true comfort food.
Egg industry member group Australian Eggs says research shows that the level of trust and acceptance in the egg industry has increased by nearly 10 per cent since 2018.
The research showed that 7 in 10 respondents say the pandemic has made them understand their reliance on safe, reliable egg supplies.
The research is backed up on the supermarket shelves.
A Woolworths spokesperson said "with customers across the country spending more time than ever at home during the pandemic, we've seen an increase in demand for household staples like eggs.
"While many people haven't been able to enjoy their favourite scrambled eggs at the local cafe during lockdowns, they haven't been missing out at home, with customer demand for eggs increasing more than 20pc compared to two years ago. Over the same period, we've seen free-range and organic eggs grow in popularity."
Report researcher Dr Kieren Moffat said that "it is challenging to build trust in a crisis and this data reveals the strong relationship that the egg industry has established with the Australian public, helping it weather this pandemic storm better than many other industries."
Rowan McMonnies, Australian Eggs managing director said the egg industry should be "very proud of this increased trust and their hard work in recent years".
"It's great to see that close to 9 in 10 Australians support egg farming after weighing up the benefits and costs of the industry, which is up 5pc from 2020, showing that during the pandemic the net industry benefits increasingly outweigh its costs."
The Australian egg industry should be very proud of this increased trust and their hard work in recent years to innovate through technology.

"This shows that although egg production is complex, Australians believe that it is a good and modest use of environmental resources with egg farms having a relatively low carbon footprint, eggs are an important source of human nutrition and are affordable."
The research found:
- 65pc of Australians expressed trust in the egg industry to act responsibly in the 2021 survey, up 9.4pc from 2018;
- 88pc support the egg industry after weighing up its benefits and costs, up 5pc;
- 80pc believe technology has improved welfare and environmental outcomes of egg farms.
