A beautiful day saw a big turnout of people, for the 19th annual on-farm ram sale for Fosterfield Merinos, Bathurst.
With 15 registered buyers, a mix of repeat and new clients vied for the 40 one-year-old, predominantly Roseville Park blood, Merino and poll Merino rams.
The previous years average of $1100 was beaten this year with an average of $1705 and a 100 percent clearance.
A stud top price of $5750, eclipsing last years $1700, was achieved for tag B47, a polled ram with a fleece micron of 14.7, 2.1 standard deviation (SD), 14.1 coefficient of variation (CV) and a comfort factor (CF) of 100 percent.
He sold to a repeat local buyer Tony Azavedo, Dunkeld, via Bathurst.
Volume buyer Peter Bonham, Tooraweenah took home 15 rams for a top of $3000 and averaged $1285 for his draft.
Stud principal, Scott Seaman thought it was pleasing to see such a strong turnout of locals.
"It was a great opportunity for people to gather and talk all things sheep. I think it also reflects the high level of confidence in the sheep business generally at the moment with strong wool and sheep markets, allowing people to make good investments in their sheep genetics." he said.
"It certainly is a purple patch for us, but it has been on the back of 20-years of hard work and focus to get the results we are seeing now."
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Bathurst with David Gardiner as auctioneer.
