When Case IH began developing a new software platform for their tractors, they did it with the end user in mind.
While the majority of machinery manufacturers make their software compatible between their own machines, Case IH has made their new platform, AFS Connect, compatible with other companies machines as well.
"While we would like producers to only use our machines, we know that is not always the way," product manager for advanced farming systems, Sean McColley said.
"Some producers will have our tractors, a different company's sprayer, and another company's harvester.
"So when we were developing AFS Connect we did it so that it works with other companies platforms to give our customers the best, and easiest to use platform for all their machinery."
AFS Connect allows producers to operate their farm with precision as data is available from a desktop or tablet anywhere.
Using uses global positioning systems and cellular technology, Case IH AFS Connect telematics sends and receives machine agronomic and job-site information to help busy managers improve productivity with up-to-the-minute information on their equipment.
It allows producers to view current field operations and agronomic data as well as fleet information.
Producers are able to share their agronomic data with third-party partners of their choosing, knowing that their data is securely transferring to and from the cloud.
"On the tractor side of things at Case IH, we have two new platforms and another new one coming in," Mr McColley said.
"AFS Connect Steiger, Magnum and the new AFS Connect Optum are new architecture running our new Pro 1200 display on AFS Vision Pro software.
"AFS Connect comes standard in these machines with five years telematics and file transfer.
"This allows customers to send data to the AFS Connect portal.
"In that portal we have the farm tab and the fleet tab.
"Fleet is monitoring machine health, position, fuel usage, a 24-hour history of machine location which can all be uploaded to the portal.
"The farm tab is for farming operations and agronomic information.
"If the customer is doing an application like spraying, all relevant information can be uploaded to the portal.
"From the farm tab, information can be sent to a machine connected to the portal.
"If a contractor is working on a farm, they can quickly get the information from a platform, send it the portal, and then get the information sent to machines in a format they can use."
