New South Wales-based stud KO Angus at Gundagai, held their inaugural Springsure sale on Tuesday, with the Onisforou family achieving a 100 per cent clearance for their bulls.
In total, all 40 bulls offered were sold, resulting in a solid $5793 average and top price of $15,000.
The KO Angus stud is owned by Theo Onisforou, and his son Angus and their farm manager Tim Lord brought the bulls up to Springsure.
Angus said his family were happy to represent good value buying for the successful purchasers in Queensland.
"With the expansion of our program, we needed to look for more marketing opportunities for our bulls," Mr Onisforou said.
"We've now found our northern outlet in the Central Highlands and it's going to be an annual event at Springsure from now on.
"We're committed to carcase improvement in our bulls, working with our clients to hit their target market and therefore improve our clients' herds."
Mr Onisforou said their bulls sold to all new Queensland clients except for one existing client.
"We're very pleased with the sale result, considering how dry it is in central Queensland and the current state of the cattle market," he said.
"We are looking to continually market our bulls in Queensland," he said.
"We wish our successful purchasers all the best with the new bulls, and look forward to being a part of their program."
The sale-topper, KO L519 Intensity, was purchased by Wayne Davis, Woonon Grazing, Sarina.
Sired by Norl519 Rennylea and out of NZCL155 KO Rosebud, the 18-month-old tipped the scales at 656 kilograms and measured 42 centimetres in scrotal circumference.
He scanned 103 square centimetres for eye muscle area and 10mm and 7mm, respectively, for P8 and rib fats.
Mr Onisforous said Intensity was a high indexing L519 son suited for heifers.
"(Intensity) will improve fertility, EMA, and rib and rump fats," he said.
Woonon Grazing's buyer representative Geoff Sutton of Elders Sarina, said Mr Davis only had his eyes on one bull in the KO draft and that was the Intensity bull.
"Woonon Grazing were looking for a bull that had the correct phenotype and all the EBV figures spot on," Mr Sutton said.
Wayne Davis runs a predominately Brahman breeding operation, turning off weaners, just south of Sarina.
They also purchase Charolais and Angus bulls, which they put over Brahman cows.
A number of bulk buyers were operating at the sale, including McKinlay's Keyes Cattle Co, Milgery, which purchased seven bulls.
AA and KJ Finger, Nebo purchased bought six, while Lunar Pastoral Co, St George, and P and J Bella, Mackay both bought four bulls.
Elders' stud stock agent Anthony Ball said the bulls presented at the Onisforou family's inaugural sale were well presented, with bulls sold throughout Queensland.
"KO Angus achieved a 100pc clearance result, which on the market and seasonal conditions is a tremendous result and a testament to the breeding program of the KO cattle," Mr Ball said.
"We've seen a pretty good spread on the bulls, with bulls heading as far north as Cloncurry, as far south into the Darling Downs, and right through central Queensland.
"For a small offering of bulls, we've got a good spread on them, which probably backs up the reputation of the performance in the cattle."
