A severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for the Mid North Coast, Hunter, North West Slopes and Plains, Lower Western, Upper Western and Northern Tablelands forecast districts.
Issued at 1:32pm today, Wednesday, November 29, the Bureau of Meteorology warns the slow moving severe thunderstorms are bringing potential heavy rain.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected include Armidale, Glen Innes, Inverell, Tamworth, Gunnedah, Moree, Narrabri, Coonabarabran, Wilcannia, White Cliffs, Broken Hill and Tilpa.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
- Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
- If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
- Unplug computers and appliances.
- Avoid using the phone during the storm.
- Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
- For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
The next warning is due to be issued by 4:35pm.
The Bureau warns a local and minor to moderate riverine flooding may develop along the Murrumbidgee River from Friday onwards.
A cold front from the Southern Ocean will approach NSW at the end of the week, and interacting with warm, humid air to generate widespread rain with embedded thunderstorms.
Southern and central districts of the state are forecast to receive the most rain, with some areas likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during Friday and Saturday.
The Upper Murrumbidgee catchment is wet following rainfall in the last two weeks.
The weather system has the potential to cause minor to moderate riverine flooding as well as local flooding from Friday onwards.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
- Molong Creek and Bell River – minor flooding
- Belubula River – minor flooding
- Tumut River – minor to moderate flooding
- Central Murrumbidgee River – minor to moderate flooding
