Studs on display were JAD Speckle Park at Yeoval, Fearnley Brangus at Eumungerie, and Daraabah, Wondenia and Medway Park Fleckvieh studs at Dubbo.
JAD Speckle Park
Justin and Amy Dickens from JAD Speckle Park, Yeoval, were back for the second consecutive year and were pleased to have a number of visitors on the day, including a significant amount of commercial producers.
People travelled from Hillston and Jindabyne right up to Narrabri in the north, and everywhere in between to see the stud's high quality animals.
A feature of the JAD open day was not only the fresh genetics and consistent phenotypes throughout the cattle, but the power of embryo transfer (ET) with one cow on display along with her 13 progeny.
Donor cow JADL642 was penned with her natural heifer calf at side, while her six ET-bred heifer calves and seven ET-bred bull calves were also on display.
The Dickens said in L642's first flush as a first calf heifer, she gave 15 A-grade embryos by NZ sire Premier 101Y Logic L11, of which 14 stuck - an impressive flushing and implant result, which was furthered by all calves born alive and unassisted, averaging 39.6 kilograms for their birthweight.
An excellent joining and excellent result for the stud, with all progeny near identical.
Also on display were N-drop (2017 born) bred heifers along with P-drop (2018 born) heifers and bulls, some of which will be sold in the JAD Speckle Park 2020 sale next March.
Fearnley Brangus
With a number of enquiries from as far afield as Victoria, Jayson Fearnley from Fearnley Brangus, was hoping for a great day after our early visit.
With female numbers down due to the season, he displayed a number of top quality females alongside his bulls.
He has found that he is keeping only the cream of the crop in his female herd with harsh conditions and these are showing fantastic traits for survival in any climate.
As he has done for a number of years, Mr Fearnley will be offering 11 bulls at the annual sale at Roma, Queensland.
Daraabah Fleckvieh, Medway Park Fleckvieh and Wondenia Fleckvieh
For the first time three Fleckvieh studs displayed their studs at Dubbo.
In the lead up to their inaugural AuctionPlus joint sale on September 6 with 102 entries from 17 studs across NSW and QLD, the McColl family from Daraabah, Stimpson family from Medway Park and Max Dench from Wondenia Fleckvieh were pleased to welcome over 20 visitors who travelled from Willow Tree, Boorowa, Mulgoa, Rylstone, Trunkey Creek and Coonamble.
On display were a number of females and bulls that showed the temperament and adaptability that this dual purpose breed has to offer.
Beef Week Day Four
Seven studs will be on show today during day four of the event including; Dalwhinnie Angus at Byng, Devanah Murray Greys and Angus at Forbes, Fairview Valley Angus and Charolais at Parkes, Goondoola Red Angus at Cargo, Redbank Angus at Cowra, and Gilmandyke Angus and Yamba Angus at Orange.
