COWS with calves sold to a top of $3400 during the Maitland store cattle sale on Saturday.
Bowe and Lidbury agent Michael Easey said there were 950 head offered and the market was dearer when compared with the last sale.
He said the quality of the yarding was mixed.
About 300 weaner steers sold from $700 to $1480 and averaged $1025, while 308 weaner heifers ranged from $900 to $1800, averaged $1245, and were about $50 dearer.
Mr Easey said yearling steers sold from $1400 to $1700 and averaged $1470.

Pregnancy-tested-in-calf heifers sold from $1650 to $2620, averaged $2000, and were $60 dearer.
The PTIC cow market was not quite a strong as the PTIC heifers and prices made from $1400 to $2200 which was overall about $20 dearer.
Unjoined cows sold to a firm market trend from $1200 to $1900 and averaged $1440.
Cows with calves, aged two to 10 years, attracted bids from $1600 to $3400 and averaged $2200.
Feature lines included a pen of 12-month-old Angus yearling steers sold by G and S Wall, Gloucester, that sold for $1625 a head. Their heifers sold for $1800 to a Dungog buyer.
Riverflat Produce, Dungog, sold 11- to 12-month-old Limousin heifers for $1825.
