Harold Curry livestock agents yarded a drought diminished yarding of 596 head on Thursday at Tenterfield as part of the RMA combined agents two day weaner and feeder sales.
Numbers might have been back but demand was intense, especially from local restockers who bullied commission buyers for the right to farm.
Steers sold from 328 cents a kilogram at $1821 to 736c/kg at $1160 with most selling for 550c/kg to 650c/kg.
Lex and Lorna Paterson off lighter country east of Legume were awarded best pen of feeder steers, milk tooth Angus 442kg for 476c/kg topping the sale at $2103.
The Friend family, Glen Innes and Glencoe, came away with 23 shiny Angus from the Colby family, Billirimba, 288kg at 596c/kg or $1718. Darryl McCarthy, Tenterfield, sold Angus 347.5kg for 514c/kg or $1786.
Michael and Pauline Hurtz were keen to fill a vacant paddock at Bungulla after moving away from breeders to trade steers and bought Angus steers from the Cussack brothers, 237kg for 688c/kg or $1632.
They also bought steers from Brian and Julie Chorley, Chipstaple, a stone's throw away, 238kg for 658c/kg or $1568.
Heifers on the day sold from 442c/kg at $1551 to 640c/kg at $1179 with most making from 550-650c/kg.
Lex and Lorna Paterson, Legume, sold Angus heifers ready to join 365.6kg for 524c/kg or $1915 going to The Ridge at The Summit through Ray White Warwick.
Best weaner heifers were awarded to Angus with Inglebrae blood produced by Ross and Anna Policaro, Mingoola, 326.7kg which made 502c/kg or $1640 going to Pinnacle Fine Foods through Elders Gunnedah.
McCarthy heifers 340kg at 500c/kg or $1700 went the same way.
Murray Grey heifers from champion led steer breeder Brian Grogan, Tenterfield, 236kg made 566c/kg or $1335.
Kyogle dairy farmer Dave Binney, Stratheden, is going into beef and out of milk so purchased Angus heifers from the Potter family, Black Swamp Road, at 256kg at 580c/kg or $1484. He also bought similar from the Cusack family, Tenterfield, 249kg for 546c/kg or $1358.
